Kelvinator Gr8! Women Awards by Indian Television Academy

In times when people kill women when they are still in their mothers’ wombs,  Rukhsana Kausar, a 20 year girl from Jammu, did her parents pride by killing a LET Militant in order to save them. She  received GR8! Women Award from hands of Mr. MS Bitta, Chairman, Anti Terrorism Front.

Such is the Kelvinator GR8! Women Award to felicitate extraordinary women achievers from all walks of life. Kelvinator GR8! Women Award 2010, in conjunction to ‘Beti’, a cause to fight against female foeticide, taken up by Ms. Anu Ranjan, was held on 26th February at ITC Grand Maratha to celebrate 24 women achievers.

It takes ‘Shakti’ to be a woman and stree is shakti, indeed. She has proved her guts by adopting two girl children as a single mother in the same society. It could be none other than Ms. Sushmita Sen to receive GR8! Special Mention for supporting a girl child.  She looked just exquisite in her blue denims  and white satin shirt.

Actress Meghna Malik of ‘Na Aana Is Des Lado’ fame received the GR8! Strongest woman on television Award sponsored by Volini.                

GR8! Beauty Award went to Ms. Pooja Chopra, Femina Miss India World 2009

Ms. Loveleen Randon bagged  GR8! Special Mention Award for her direction in Oscar  winning motion film Slumdog Millionaire.  She assisted Danny Boyle in the direction.

Ms. Aradhana Prakash Gupta was honored with standing ovation and GR8 special mention award 2010 for her 17 year fight to get justice for her childhood and then molested friend Ruchica. Ruchica is no more but her friend sets a perfect example for all we women by fighting for her friend against an ACP, Rathod, fighting against the system.

GR8! Golden Laurel Award was presented to Ms. Asha Parekh for her contripution to Indian Cinema by Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar. Bhandarkar recalled how he visited Ms. Parekh’s residence as video cassette distributing boy and now that it was a great honor to be presenting the award to her. Three television artists danced on Ms. Parekh’s celebrated film songs and refreshed the audience. 

Gr8! Women Award 2010 for Entrepreneur given to Ms. Shahnaaz Husein was indeed a matter of pride for us as we were told about her invitation to the White House to represent women power as greatest woman entrepreneur in past 104 years.

Ms. Saroj Khan looked humble with her Gr8! Women Award for Choreography.

Gr8! Women Award 2010 for Film Directing was bagged by Ms. Zoya Akhtar for her debut film      ‘Luck By Chance’.

Gr8! Singer Award 2010 went to Ms. Kavita Seth – Singer of Ek Tara in Movie ‘Wake Up Sid’.

Mrs. Amita Wattal, Principal of Spring Dales School, received GR8! Women Award for Education.

Ms. Latika Khaneji, Executive Director of Collage was celebrated with Gr8! Entrepreneur, Marketing & Management and Sports

Program ended with GR8! Scroll of honor for Global Recognition for Former Miss World, Ms. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Other Award winning personalities were –

Ms. Manisha Girotra, CEO of UBS Group Banking Operations in India received  GR8! Women Award for Banking and Finance for her outstanding achievements.

Ms. Sabina Khan, celebrity designer, who is currently behind the grooming of Rahul Mahajan of Rahul Dulhania Le Jaayega was awarded with GR8! WOmen Award for Fashion and Designing.

Chetna Sinha, an economist and Founder of ‘Deshi Mahila Bank’ for extending economic support for rural sector, who also received Godrey Phillip Bravery Award for 2009, was presented GR8! Women Award for  Social Services.

Zia Modi, daughter of former Attorney General of India, Soli Sorabjee was donned with GR8! Women Award for Law.

Suman Sharma – GR8! Special Mention Award

Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora – GR8! Women Award for Science and Technology

Krushna Patil – GR8! women Award for Sports

Sparsh Khanchandani – GR8! Women Award for Sports

Jashmin Shorabjee – GR8! Women award for Young Achiever- Advertising

Dr. Rishma Dhillon Pai – GR8! Women award for Medicine

The Program was called off by presenting trophy and a prize of 1 lac rupees to Mr. Vardhman Saxena for his winning entry to Beti Contest, a short film contest ‘Beti’ on female foeticide, held by ITA in association with Aaj Tak Channel. There were total 200 entries for a video film of 45 seconds.

GR8! Women Award has been an attempt to bring to light the achievements by women and for all of us to understand there is neither a shame in being a woman and having a woman as your child.

Kelvinator GR8! Women Award function will be telecast on March 8th, at 8 pm on Sony television.
